Did you know that we each contain a mixture of both masculine and feminine energy, regardless of our gender or how we identify ourselves? Being a man does not mean that you have only male energy and being a woman does not mean that you have only female energy. Just like night and day, light and dark, yin and yang, male and female energies are two poles that are an integral part of everything that exists in the Universe. Each of us contains these energies in different degrees, some leading more towards one end of the spectrum and some towards the other. The beauty of each of us as individuals means that we each represent and lead from different combinations of energy.

Many traditions and cultures have embraced and explored the idea of the divine masculine and divine feminine. Chinese philosophy sees men as yang and women as yin, within yogic traditions Shiva is the masculine and Shakti the feminine, and in ancient South American traditions these two energies were defined as the eagle and the condor. In our Western culture we have divided the feminine and the masculine into somewhat fixed and stereotypical ideas of gender. We see the feminine as soft, emotional and sensitive and the masculine as hard, rational and brain-oriented.
It is quite normal to have a dominance of one energy over the other, one that we channel through more often than not. Not only that, our energies can vary and change throughout our lives or at different stages of our personal growth. Your energy will even change depending on the situation you are in or the people you are communicating with. Of course it will not always be possible to have your energies in perfect balance, however it is ideal to keep things as balanced as possible, like everything else in life.
We know that eating a balanced diet is essential to our health, as is getting enough sleep and exercising frequently. Also, in the same way, having a balanced and healthy energy system is essential.
It is possible to convey too much of one energy, for example having an over nourished male energy and an underdeveloped female energy or vice versa.

Unbalanced Masculine Characteristics
In our current society, one of the most normal things is for women to have an overactive masculine energy as a result of struggling to make it in what has been a very male dominated world and patriarchal society. In a world that values hard work and external validation it is common for men to also deny an expression of their feminine energy. Men feel that they cannot be truly vulnerable or express their emotions and therefore overdevelop the masculine energy within them to their detriment.
The dominant energy around the world has been the unbalanced masculine for many hundreds of years. Both sexes have been driven primarily by insecurity, fear and a desire for excess. In general people have been consumed to always want more, do more and produce in excess regardless of the welfare of the planet and the environment.
